Advantage Africa’s local partner in Thinu, near Machakos town in Eastern Province of Kenya is Thinu Primary School. Here we work closely with the head teacher Mr Benson Nzioki and the School Management Committee. We also forge links with the District Education Office. Visit our special education project in Thinu

With Advantage Africa’s focus on people, we also nurture close working relationships with the special unit teaching and support staff including the two house mothers and the cook.Group photo Thinu

One of the house mothers, Eunice, has worked with Advantage Africa since 2005. She has a special education qualification and we are now supporting her to study for a teaching qualification with the expectation that she will return to teach at Thinu Special Unit after completion of her teacher training.

Ngalani Rural Development Centre who were Advantage Africa’s initial partners on this project are greatly appreciated. They helped us develop the project from its first concept, and then went on to work with the school to manage the full construction and equipping of the special unit. Ngalani Rural Development Centre then formally handed over to the school as the pupils arrived and started learning in May 2012.
