The Source of the Nile Union of Persons with Albinism (SNUPA) is based in Jinja and covers Busoga sub-region, Uganda. SNUPA was founded in October 2012 and has been working in partnership with Advantage Africa since September 2013.

The organisation is led by an inspirational young man called Peter Ogik who is determined to change attitudes and help people with albinism to have better lives. He is supported by Fazira Kawuma, who is also vice-chairperson of Uganda’s National Council for Disability, and passionate about supporting vulnerable, excluded people.

Peter, Fazira and the SNUPA team support inspirational role models in each of Busoga sub-region’s ten districts. These representatives are seeking all the children and adults with albinism across their local communities, helping them to know they are not alone, challenge prejudice and change attitudes about their condition.

Advantage Africa is working with SNUPA to ensure 400 people with albinism in the Busoga sub-region can protect themselves from skin cancer by receiving sun screen, hats, protective clothing and timely dermatological checks. With SNUPA we are also supporting awareness-raising, access to education, skills training and income generation so that people with albinism can reach their potential and be fully part of their communities.
