Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is the national body for special education training in Kenya. Advantage Africa is delighted to be partnering with KISE to expand our work in the transition of students with learning disabilities from school to adult life. Experience from our work on the ground in special schools shows that older students with learning disabilities often get stuck in school far too long, or simply leave school without a transition plan. To address this issue we have developed a comprehensive handbook and training course for special teachers and initial piloting of the training started at KISE in 2019 and was completed in 2022. Feedback from special teachers shows that the training is much needed and they are pleased that this programme has equiped them with knowledge and skills in facilitating successful transitions for their school leavers.
