BOND (British Overseas NGOs for Development) is the United Kingdom's broadest network of voluntary organisations working in international development (often called non-governmental organisations, or NGOs).  BOND was founded in June 1993, on the initiative of 61 NGOs, and now has over 300 members, including Advantage Africa.  It is officially recognised by the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID).   Click here to visit their website.

Advantage Africa is a member of MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY, a campaign to address some of the causes of world poverty. We are also a supporter of the Stop AIDS Campaign which aims for treatment for all by 2010.

Advantage Africa is a founder member of the Africa Campaign on Disability and HIV & AIDS.


Useful sources of information about HIV/AIDS and disability in Africa include:

UNAIDS, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS; a good source of statistics, studies and articles on HIV/AIDS searchable by topic, region or agency.

The World Health Organisation. The United Nations specialised agency for health.

AIDS Action.  Includes guidelines and ideas for community based AIDS education and prevention appropriate for various cultural contexts.

Aegis.  Contains HIV/AIDS news from around the world updated by the hour.

Aidsmap.  A comprehensive HIV/AIDS website with basic information on HIV, together with news on prevention, treatment and care.

Allafrica.com.  Collects the latest news on HIV and AIDS from Africa, from over 125 African news organisations every day.

Avert. An internationally-focused website with comprehensive information on HIV/AIDS prevention, infection, treatment, statistics, news and events.

The International Aids Alliance.  A global partnership of nationally-based organisations working to support community action on AIDS.

HIV InSite.  Contains comprehnsive up to date information on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention and policy.

The UK Consortium for AIDS and International Development.  Network of NGOs working in the field of HIV/AIDS.

The African Decade of Disabled Persons (1999-2009).  The Decade aims to raise awareness about disability issues in Africa and identify local solutions that increase participation, equality and empowerment of disabled people in Africa.

Disabled People's International. Reports on the activities of 135 national disability organisations, together with a useful archive of information on disability issues.

Abilityinfo.  A Canadian website listing resources for students studying in the field of disability as well as professionals working within it.

Leonard Cheshire International.  The UK website of the international disability NGO with links, news and expertise in the field of disability and development.

Source.  An international information support centre designed to improve the management, use and impact of information on health, disability and development worldwide.  Source provides free online access to 25,000 comprehensive references, with links to full text resources where possible.
